Heritage Insurance Group traces its roots to the original agency, Erwin Insurance Agency, founded in 1909 in Erwin, Tennessee. That agency was acquired by Frank Parsley Insurance, of Erwin in 1994, and merged into that agency's Erwin, Tennessee location. The agency changed its name in 1997, to Heritage Insurance Group, Inc.
Over the last 15 years the agency has experienced rapid growth as it added new clients, and acquired other agencies, increasing its market presence in Johnson City and Kingsport, Tennessee, particularly in commercial insurance. Agencies acquired during that time include: Speed, Taylor & Artrip, Inc. (1997); Toohey, Jordan & Stewart, Inc. (1999); Faw, Sherrod & Smalling, Inc. (2001); and Bennett & Edwards Insurance Agency (2006). Our Employee Benefits division began in 2001, and has experienced rapid growth.
Heritage Insurance Group now consists of 18 employees, located in Johnson City, and Kingsport, Tennessee. We are one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the Tri Cities region. HIG currently represents 14 Property and Casualty insurance carriers, and 7 Life and Health carriers. We placed more than $23 million of insurance premiums in 2010.
Heritage Insurance Group's staff includes some of the region's finest and most knowledgeable insurance professionals. The following Professional Designations are held by staff members: CPCU (1); CIC (3); CLU (1); ChFC (1); AAI (3); CISR (8); REBC (1); RHU (1) API (1); and LUTCF (1). Every staff member pursues additional educational coursework each year.
