"Legal Aid of West Virginia advocates for low-income, vulnerable West Virginians, seeks equal access to justice, and creates system change in order to improve client safety, health, housing, income and access to resources. Four Staff Awards for Outstanding Work in several areas (Making a Difference Award, Gary Barkus Award, Kick-Ass Advocacy Award, and Leadership Award) are now given annually at our fall staff meeting. Click here to see a list of award recipients.

2) Anniversary Awards - these awards go to staff beginning at 15 years of services and then in 5 year increments - these awards include a plaque and money

3) Hall of Fame Induction - instituted after recommendations from a staff committee, the first class of inductees were honored at last week's staff meeting. The Hall of Fame is a way to recognize and preserve the contributions of staff who have made legal services a career, working 20 or more consecutive years for LAWV (and its predecessor organizations) and leave the program in good standing. Inductees receive a glass trophy and their names and years of service go on a plaque in the office where they served as well as on a plaque in Charleston. The twelve who were inducted at last week's ceremony include many key staff from the early days of legal services in West Virginia. These staff helped thousands of clients and challenged many institutional "wrongs" over the years."
